History of Professional Joinery in Rotherham

Professional Joinery in Rotherham are a fairly new company but have a long history of experience to call upon.

As a founder member of the company, Ken Trueman started work in the building trade in 1963 as an apprentice joiner with local company Parkins.
His work involved a starting period in the Parkins workshop where all the windows, doors and stairs were made for the Parkins building sites.

On completion of the statuary 12 month period learning how to make and assemble the windows, stairs and doors Ken moved onto the Parkins building sites to complete his joinery apprenticeship.

Joists, traditional roofing (there were no trusses in those days), first and second fixing and finishing to a high standard were all part of the training required to complete apprenticeships in those days and these tasks were all completed with flying colours.

On completion of the apprenticeship scheme Ken went into partnership with one of his peers and after a while working on various sites throughout Rotherham and Sheffield the pair set up and ran a successful company building extensions and completing other building works for private individuals and businesses in the area.
This came to a rather abrupt end in 1984, after the miners strike, (which crippled a lot of small businesses that they worked for).

Returning to site work Ken successfully trained his son in the joinery trade and was drawn into site management.

After a successful period of 5 years as a site manager promotion to Contract manager was achieved.
This was a great learning period, a time to learn and appreciate what other trades such as bricklayers, electricians, plumbers, ground workers and plasterers actually did and, more to the point, how they worked.

Using this knowledge and accompanied by his son Mark as a partner Ken set up Professional Joinery, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Professional Joinery are now an established local company working mainly in the South Yorkshire, West Humberside and North Nottinghamshire areas.
Renovation, kitchens, doors, stairs, loft conversions and general building work are the main part of their itinerary.
