Converting your loft into a habitable living space is a popular way of increasing the size of your house at a reduced cost, compared to the cost of moving to a larger home.
Is this the way to go? Let's do a few comparisons first before making a decision, after all, this could affect your future.

Advantages.

Cost: It will be significantly cheaper to convert your loft that it would be to move home. This is a fact, especially when you weigh up the Solicitors and Estate agent fees involved in moving home.

Speed: The speed of conversion of an average size loft can depend on a few criteria, any of which could effect the time taken to complete the loft conversion.
A few of these would be;
Do I require planning consent?
Do I need to have professional drawings done for me?
Will a Structural engineer be required to prove any calculations?

Most of the above are answered in our brochure which you can download here;Joinery window
Basic explanation of Planning and Building regulations

Can I just have the basic work carried out by professional joinery and do the remainder myself?
Yes, we can provide just the labour or labour and materials to suit you.
We can also provide a basic construction for the loft conversion so that you can complete the work yourself although we do insist on completing all the structural elements of your loft conversion such as supporting walls and ceilings.

Disadvantages.

Rates. You will, of course incur extra rates payments, this is not really a disadvantage as you will also incur extra rates payments if you move to a larger property, it's just something to consider when enlarging a property, or moving to a larger property, that most people overlook.

Disruption: There will, without doubt be a period when the building work will make you feel that you have made the wrong decision. We clean up our mess on a daily basis, (not every builder does this), never the less, there will be disruption to your daily life during the period of construction.

All these questions can have an impact on the time taken to convert your loft. we will try to simplify some of them here for you, or provide links and/or downloads that will help to explain the requirements.
